Landfills are rapidly reaching capacity all across the United States. According to data collected by the Waste Business Journal last year, at our current pace, Midwest landfills will run out of space in 10 years, leading to more and more landfills being created and expanded across Wisconsin.
At WasteCap, we’re working everyday to change this by reducing waste production and ensuring less recyclables end up in the trash. This past year, we worked with businesses and communities to divert over 60,000 tons of waste from Wisconsin landfills, the equivalent of 6,672 garbage trucks. This work helped extend the life of over 50 landfills across the state. Your support can buy us all more time.
Your gift of $6 diverts one ton of waste from landfills, $30 diverts 5 tons, and $115 diverts over 19 tons- enough to buy your local landfill another full hour. This Giving Season, we’re working to raise $2,792 to prolong landfill life next year by another full DAY through waste audits, source reduction projects, and community waste reduction education.
